Book #11: The Golden Couple, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

Image
Synopsis: The Golden Couple  is the next electrifying audiobook from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, the number one  New York Times  best-selling author duo behind  You Are Not Alone ,  An Anonymous Girl , and  The Wife Between Us. If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. Her successes are phenomenal – she helps people overcome everything from domineering parents to assault – and almost absorb the emptiness she sometimes feels since her husband’s death. Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple – until Marissa cheats. She wants to repair things, both because she loves her husband and for the sake of their 8-year-old son. After a friend forwards an article about Avery, Marissa takes a chance on this maverick therapist, who lost her license due to controversial methods. When the Bishops glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the b...

Image
Fast-paced and brilliantly unpredictable, J.T. Ellison’s breathtaking new novel invites you to a wedding none will forget—and some won’t survive. Jutting from sparkling turquoise waters off the Italian coast, Isle Isola is an idyllic setting for a wedding. In the majestic cliff-top villa owned by the wealthy Compton family, up-and-coming artist Claire Hunter will marry handsome, charming Jack Compton, surrounded by close family, intimate friends…and a host of dark secrets. From the moment Claire sets foot on the island, something seems amiss. Skeletal remains have just been found. There are other, newer disturbances, too. Menacing texts. A ruined wedding dress. And one troubling shadow hanging over Claire’s otherwise blissful relationship—the strange mystery surrounding Jack’s first wife. J.T. Ellison author of Her Dark Lies Joins SI Meeting Recap

Image
Spoilers of   Her Dark Lies   ahead. Grab a glass of wine, read the book, and come back and join us for a discussion with J.T. Ellison. When you return, grab a pen to jot down book recommendations, because this author likes to name drop her faves, her inspirations, even her competition.   Due to catching Covid, we had to postpone our author chat a few weeks. Don’t worry; J.T. is on the mend, and she learned that the rumor that Covid recovery lasts as long as re-watching Game of Thrones is pretty on target. She made it through 6 ½ seasons. J.T. came to us slightly sniffly, but ready to talk about what went into   Her Dark Lies.   The first thing I wanted to know, of course, is what would the Wine Vixen pair with reading   Her Dark Lies.   If you haven’t heard of the Wine Vixen, check out J.T. Elllison’s page at   www.thewinevixen.com   for wine reviews and recipes. Thrilled to be asked, J.T. recommends hearty dark red Nero d’Avola. I ma...

Her Dark Lies Book Review

Image
We at Shelf Indulgence give this one a solid 5 start review. J.T. Ellison’s books always deliver the kind of page-turning pacing that makes for a perfect weekend binge-read, and HER DARK LIES is no exception. This “thriller” moves along at an engaging clip, putting readers in the heart of the action on Isle Isola, and periodically stepping back and giving readers the perspective of an unnamed—and very creepy—third party narrator. Through the biting, sometimes downright nasty perspective of this anonymous narrator, Ellison infuses HER DARK LIES with a dash of truly sinister tension. What does this third voice want with Claire and Jack? And how far will they go to get what they want? I loved this creepy element of HER DARK LIES, and appreciated the darkness and intrigue it contributed to the story. As the tension and action in HER DARK LIES ratchet up, our story morphs from a light family drama to a pulse-pounding fight for survival. Ellison masterfully plays to the strengths of he...

Master Of Shadows - Jayne Thorne CIA Librarian Book 2, Joss Walker - ARC Review

Image
I recently had the privilege of reading Master of Shadows, the second book in the Jayne Thorne, CIA Librarian series, and it was even more enjoyable than the first one.  As a self-proclaimed nerd, I love all the fandoms, and adore reading fantasy and magic novels, especially when they are done well, and this series definitely falls into that category.  I adored the first novel, and when I found out I would be able to get my hands on the second one early, I literally squealed, and did a happy dance, then pouted for a few minutes realizing I would have to wait for the craziness of school to finish so that I could devote all my mental energy on enjoying this book.  The wait was long, but well worth it.  I finally had time without children or my husband to bug me to curl up and fall back into Jayne Thorne’s world. I devoured this novel.  It was just as captivating as the first, and the story just keeps getting more and more intriguing.  The references to so man...

Book #9: One Italian Summer, Rebecca Serle

Image
The Synopsis When Katy’s mother dies, she is left reeling. Carol wasn’t just Katy’s mom, but her best friend and first phone call. She had all the answers and now, when Katy needs her the most, she is gone. To make matters worse, their planned mother-daughter trip of a lifetime looms: to Positano, the magical town where Carol spent the summer right before she met Katy’s father. Katy has been waiting years for Carol to take her, and now she is faced with embarking on the adventure alone. But as soon as she steps foot on the Amalfi Coast, Katy begins to feel her mother’s spirit. Buoyed by the stunning waters, beautiful cliffsides, delightful residents, and, of course, delectable food, Katy feels herself coming back to life. And then Carol appears—in the flesh, healthy, sun-tanned, and thirty years old. Katy doesn’t understand what is happening, or how—all she can focus on is that she has somehow, impossibly, gotten her mother back. Over the course of one Italian summer, Katy gets t...
