Five Friday Favorites from Meryl Lynn L.

Every Friday we are going to highlight one of our book club members, their 5 favorite books, and why these meant something to them. This will allow you to get to know us, what we've read, and what stuck with us. And if you're lucky, It just may give you some recommendations to look into and check out...

Our next member's Five Favorites is from Meryl Lynn L.

1. 1Q84: By Haruki Murakami: I was riveted and spellbound by this novel. It’s a love story, a fantasy, a mystery and a novel of self discovery. It defies a box to fit neatly in but I could not stop reading!

2. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: (I read the full Millennium Trilogy) This is the first in the series by Swedish author Stieg Larson. He created a strong, brilliant character in Lisbeth Salander. Followed by The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest. This definitely fits in the psychological thriller, crime fiction genre. I loved three written by Larson and published posthumously.

3. All the Light We Cannot See: Anthony Doerr. This is a breathtakingly beautiful, inspiring,  heartbreaking and astonishing novel. I’m pretty sure I wept at times while reading it.This won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

4. My Brilliant Friend: By Elena Ferrante (Pseudonym) This is the first of 4 in the Neapolitan series focused on the lifelong friendship of 2 girls growing up in the 50’s in Naples Italy. It explores the intensity of the friendship and what life is like in post war Italy. It took me awhile to read but I’m definitely going to continue with the next 3 in the series.

5. Saddles for Breakfast: I have to end with Saddles for Breakfast by Janet Randall. It was my favorite book as a young girl but it’s filled with nostalgia and memories of my Mother and I treasure it to this day!
